Prayer Movement Leaders Call Believers to ‘Stand in the GAP’ For Revival in America

As part of an upcoming nationwide event hosted by GAP26 (Great American Prayer), organizers recently released a devotional on YouVersion’s Bible App that calls on followers of Jesus to “stand in the GAP for personal, church, and national revival.”

REVIVAL –  A Call Back to God is a 7-day devotional from GAP26 founder and president Hank Erwin and pastor Samuel Deuth. Both told Think Eternity News that they believe that the country is ready for a return to its Christian beginnings.

Erwin said that the Pilgrims came to America to spread the gospel and “when they hit the ground in Plymouth they prayed.”

He believes the nation “has sustained for 250 years” because it’s been a country of people who pray. “A revival right now is going to be a welcome exercise. People want to say to the entire world: ‘For the United States of America, we’re going to follow Jesus,’” Erwin said.

He adds that for many people, 2026 will be a time to make a decision about their direction in life.

“I believe America is going to make up its mind this year on who they’re going to follow,” Erwin said. “Are they going to follow the chaos that’s happening in the streets of America? Or, are they going to follow the King of kings who made America what it is today?”

A TIME TO ACT

Deuth also feels that it’s a time of action for Christians.

“God calls us to pray “His Kingdom come, His will be done,” he said. “He calls us to build and to evangelize in partnership with the Spirit of God. When it comes to the Church, we’re not just waiting around. He has called us to partner with Him and to do certain things that bring the Kingdom of God to earth. Let’s rally together to believe for an encounter, to believe for something transformational.”

Deuth replied to a question about the components of a revival: “Do I think that revival or an outpouring is a formula? I don’t think so. We want to do what we know to do in the Word of God – humble ourselves, pray, seek His face.”

…I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. (Ezekiel 22:30)

GAP26 is described by its leaders as a faith-based initiative aimed at sparking a Third Great Awakening across the U.S. It seeks to unify diverse communities through prayer, worship, and outreach to address societal challenges and foster national spiritual renewal. Individuals, groups, and churches plan to participate in various themed prayers over four days in early March either in person at venues located throughout the country or watching a livestream hosted by GAP26.

The devotional is an acrostic in which each day the reader “walks through the journey of R.E.V.I.V.A.L. — returning to God in repentance, expecting the Holy Spirit’s power, walking in Christ’s victory, igniting spiritual fire, lifting a voice of praise, awakening hearts to holiness and mission, and living sent into the world.”

RETURN TO GOD

The first day’s devotional, Return to God, begins: “As we seek God for a supernatural shift, awakening, and revival in our nation, we must begin with repentance. We must turn from our evil ways and turn toward Jesus!”

When asked what he’d like to see happen as the result of the REVIVAL devotional, Deuth said he wants to see people reading the devotional in “faith and prayer that’s grounded in the Word of God.”

“God’s desire is to awaken his people and to visit His people, and that they would have a sustained ‘leaning in’ to encounter God. And to see our nation transformed,” he said.

Deuth said that when people read about the Great Awakenings in America they sometimes ask,  “‘Could that really happen in our time?’ When you look around at the state of our country, there’s some positive in our nation and some negative in our nation, and you ask, ‘Could we really see a cultural shift back to Christ in America in our time?’ When looking at history, it’s obvious that God called us back several times.”

“America is not just some lost cause that we’re riding like a sinking ship as long as we can,” he said. “God wants to restore, renew, revive and awaken America again”.

Note: In 2025, YouVersion’s Bible App reached 1 billion downloads.
